Timeline of Events
April 2018
Team TUMOR was formed in April, after being proposed by members Anthony Atalla, Morgan Coley, Matt Hamers, Nima Karodeh, Matthew Nagler, Yomna Nassar, Ria Sebastian, and Matthew Tiberino, with the help of John Daristotle. Our team is compiled of a range of STEM majors, dedicated to research in improving cancer treatment. Our team was joined by mentors, Dr. Kofinas and Mr. Darisotle, as well as our librarian, Jordan Sly.
September 2018
This fall, we will compose our literature review, solidifying the direction that we plan to take with our research. In doing so, we will perform comprehensive research on past studies and discoveries made in regards to our research problem. We will also be preparing for our sophomore research proposal, coming up in the spring of 2019.
November 2018
Once completing our literature review, we were able to get into the actual lab for a quick orientation. We look forward to completing a wide range of experiments, testing a variety of mechanical and chemical properties for our proposed design of a chemically loaded surgical sealant.
February 2019
Team TUMOR defended our proposal on February 18 in front of Gemstone directors, Dr. Frank J. Coale and Dr. Kristan Skendall, along with our mentors, Dr. Peter Kofinas and John Daristotle, and expert, Dr. Giuliano Scarcelli. We were able to receive important and necessary feedback in order to improve our further research.
March 2019
Our Launch UMD campaign begins on March 6. We currently have a projected need for a budget of at least $10,000; donations of any size will make a significant impact and are greatly appreciated. We thank you for you support in advance and are excited to improve cancer treatment methods with your help.
